This was Jay Bennett’s first work after leaving Wilco.

One of the things I hope to do in this blog is preserve some of my earlier writing in hopes that it doesn’t get lost on a deteriorating internet. A popular culture website published this review on 31 July 2002.

To the best of my knowledge, no other online copies of this article exist.

Jay Bennett passed away on 24 May 2009 of an accidental overdose.

I’ve interviewed a lot of people, but my conversation with Bennett stands out to this day. His voice was very deep — like, very deep — and he was just a good conversationalist as opposed to someone answering questions.

I’ve wanted to return this interview to the web for a while.
